Spectra Premium has announced that it has developed new imaging equipment to capture its products in 3D.
To make the display more interactive, the company is adding the new 3D spin images to its current bank of multi-view high-resolution pictures.
“We opted for the 3D imaging solution over the 360 degrees option because it provides a better experience for the consumers. The 3D pictures are as close as possible to holding the actual product in their hands as current digital technology allows. With this clear image and interactivity, consumers will be able to better appreciate the quality of the product and make more informed purchasing decisions,” explained Collin Francis, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Aftermarket USA.
As explained by the company, in a 360-degree viewing format, 24 pictures are needed. In contrast, 72 pictures are used for the new 3D display to showcase a smoothly rotating part. The customer also has the option of dragging the view vertically in the 3D images. This allows them to look from the top of the part at various angles. Additionally, they can inspect every detail of the part by zooming into each of the high-definition images.
Spectra Premium sought the expertise of Snap36 (known for their 3D and 360 degrees imaging knowledge) for equipment, software and training.
“Moreover, our clients will directly benefit from this upgrade,” added Francis. “In addition to attaching these enhanced digital images to our eCatalogue, we will share these images with our clients in their data files to help them increase their sales and decrease part returns.”
Spectra Premium’s most relevant and popular parts from its catalogue consisting of more than 15,000 products, will receive this upgrade in the future. The company plans to apply the 3D digital imaging for its newly launched parts, beginning with the product release in the second quarter of this year.
